Telluride’s Secret Is Out: Nathan Fielder’s Holmes Doc ‘You Can See Everything’ Heads to Theaters

Posted on September 8, 2026 by xaldris-sl1

The Telluride Film Festival loves a locked-door surprise, and this year’s mystery Sunday slot did not disappoint. Phones stayed away. Speculation ran wild. Then the lights went down on You Can See Everything — a nearly three-hour documentary co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim about Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, made largely in secret over three years.

According to festival coverage, the film starts with an intimate, almost observational stretch: Holmes, days from reporting to federal prison, opens her life to a skeptical crew. What follows mutates. Reenactments, performance layers, and reality-bending twists turn a portrait into something closer to Fielder’s signature hall of mirrors. A24 confirmed a theatrical release for October, which means the Telluride reaction cycle is only the opening act.

Fielder has built a career on controlled awkwardness and engineered intimacy — from The Rehearsal to The Curse. Pairing that instinct with Oppenheim, fresh off narrative buzz for Primetime at Venice, gives the project an unusual dual engine: deadpan comedy instincts meeting rigorous documentary craft. Early reports from the screening describe a movie that refuses to stay in one lane, which is exactly why Entertainment desks are circling it.

Holmes’ story already had a prestige footprint — Alex Gibney’s The Inventor, Hulu’s The Dropout — so the question is not whether audiences know the beats. It is whether Fielder and Oppenheim can make familiarity feel newly unstable. Festival chatter suggests they can. The title itself is a dare: see everything, then decide how much of it you trust.

For now, the calendar is simple. Telluride premiere: done. Theatrical: October. Between those dates, expect teaser clips, think pieces, and a lot of arguments about where documentary ends and rehearsal begins. That noise is the point. In a fall crowded with franchise noise, a secret-screening doc that becomes an A24 event is already winning the week’s Entertainment conversation.
