Tonight’s Drop: FX and Hulu Premiere ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’

Posted on September 8, 2026 by xaldris-sl1

If you spent years living inside Snowfall, tonight is the reunion you marked on the calendar. The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and the same night on Hulu, with new episodes weekly across an eight-episode first season. Internationally, Disney+ is the streaming home.

The new series picks up Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) in 1990s Los Angeles, after the crack-era chaos of the mother show. The new game is music. Wanda bets that West Coast rap can reshape American culture and starts assembling a volatile crew of talent — cousins Lamar and James Kinsey (Asante Blackk and Peyton Alex Smith) among them — while chasing local rapper Artillery (Simmie “Buddy” Sims III), already tangled with law enforcement. Her internship with former street player turned label boss Darryl “DG” Grant (Brandon Mychal Smith) opens doors and deepens the tension with Leon, who is trying to leave the streets behind through a free legal clinic.

That setup is pure Entertainment catnip: franchise nostalgia without a pure remake, music-industry ambition colliding with street politics, and a cast that mixes returning faces (including Quincy Chad as Big Deon) with heavy hitters like Mykelti Williamson, Nicki Micheaux, Isidora Goreshter, Eric Balfour, and others. Showrunner Malcolm Spellman and the Snowfall producing team keep the tone grounded — ambition, loyalty, and survival still share the same block.

Why it matters tonight: spinoffs often feel like brand extensions. The Drop is pitching something sharper — a cultural handoff from one LA boom to another. Wanda’s arc already proved she can survive the worst of the original series; now the show asks whether she can build something that lasts when labels, gangs, and dreams all want a cut. Cue the first episode, then weekly appointments. If the trailer’s energy holds, Tuesday nights just got louder.

How to watch: FX linear at 9/8c, same-night Hulu stream, Disney+ outside the U.S. One episode to start. Seven more reasons to keep the remote nearby.
