Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story Lands on Netflix September 17

Mark the calendar: Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story arrives on Netflix on September 17, and every episode drops together. The fourth chapter of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology finally puts a woman at the center of the “monster” frame — Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, the Fall River figure forever tied to the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother.

The official logline leans into pressure-cooker domestic horror. A repressed daughter and a rebellious maid (Vicky Krieps as Bridget “Maggie” Sullivan) are trapped in a household built on humiliation, then escape into a fantasy of sex, power, and revenge. The murders that follow, the show promises, do not merely shock a nation — they mint an icon who refuses the cage society built for her.

Charlie Hunnam, who led the Ed Gein season, returns as Andrew Borden. Rebecca Hall plays Abby Borden, with Billie Lourd, Jessica Barden, and a Sarah Paulson appearance rounding out the Murphy-verse energy. Max Winkler and Sarah Adina Smith direct the eight-episode run, written by Brennan.

Trailers have already weaponized the old nursery rhyme and Beatty’s blood-streaked stare. Whether that marketing feels bold or too on-the-nose will be part of the conversation — Murphy’s Monster series thrives on controversy as much as prestige casting. What is not in doubt is the binge window: one night, eight episodes, and a Victorian hallway that probably should not be entered alone.

If you are stacking September watchlists, this sits beside the usual fall slate as the anthology’s wildest swing yet. Netflix has the full drop on September 17. Bring your own axe jokes — the rhyme is already waiting.
