Don’t Stop Believin’: Ryan Murphy Says the Glee Reboot Script Is Done — and Ten Originals Want In

Posted on September 25, 2026September 25, 2026 by xaldris-sl1

Gleeks, hydrate. Ryan Murphy just told Entertainment Tonight that a Glee reboot script exists — finished “an hour ago,” in classic Murphy timing — and about ten original cast members are already leaning yes. Co-creators Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who wrote the show’s early seasons with him, are back on the page. Nobody in the cast has read it yet. Murphy wanted their vibe check first, because the original set was, in his words, very close.

That is not a greenlight with a premiere date stamped on it. It is, however, the loudest signal since Murphy floated the idea earlier this year after noticing a new wave of young viewers rediscovering New Directions on Disney+, Hulu, and Prime Video. The 2009–2015 Fox jukebox musical turned show-choir underdogs into a pop-culture weather system: weekly covers, Broadway-meets-high-school melodrama, and a cast that could sell heartbreak in three-part harmony.

The original ensemble remains the emotional core of any reunion pitch. Matthew Morrison’s Will Schuester, Jane Lynch’s Sue Sylvester, Jayma Mays’s Emma, and the club kids — Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Dianna Agron, Kevin McHale, Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and others — defined a certain late-aughts TV energy that streaming nostalgia has only amplified. Murphy’s ET comments carefully dodge specifics on who the “around ten” are, which is wise: one leaked casting spreadsheet and the fandom will write twelve seasons of fanfic by lunch.

What would a 2026 Glee even sound like? The show always lived at the intersection of chart hits and after-school special stakes. A reboot that only remixes the old set lists would feel like karaoke night with better lighting. A reboot that treats those characters as adults navigating fame, teaching, or the wreckage of early success could actually justify another trip to Lima, Ohio. Murphy saying the original cast is “enthusiastic” and full of questions suggests the script is aimed at reunion chemistry, not a full teen reset with strangers in letterman jackets.

For now, the homework is simple: keep watching the original on the platforms that already host it, and do not start a petition titled “Sue Sylvester for President” until someone confirms a network or streamer. The script is written. The cast is curious. The rest is negotiation, calendars, and whether America is ready to cry to a power ballad in weekly installments again. Spoiler: it probably is.
