Kayce Dutton is back in the saddle, and he’s not following the rulebook. Marshals, the Taylor Sheridan-produced Yellowstone spinoff starring Luke Grimes, returned for its second season on CBS on Sunday, October 4. If you missed the broadcast, the premiere is streaming on Paramount+ from today.
“All Hat No Cattle”
The season opener, titled “All Hat No Cattle,” throws Kayce into a personal crisis right away. According to CBS, he discovers that his son Tate has been taken hostage and goes rogue in a race to bring him home. At the same time, his unit uncovers a powerful criminal operation tied to the East Camp land grab, setting up a violent showdown that threatens everything Kayce cares about.
The two-minute trailer CBS released ahead of the return also put fans’ minds at ease about last season’s finale shootout. Cal (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle (Arielle Kebbel), Rainwater, Miles and Andrea all show up, so the core cast made it through. One of the trailer’s best lines has Andrea calling Kayce a “chaos magnet,” while Kayce admits the Dutton legacy was never really about land. It was always about having to fight.
Why CBS brought it back so fast
Marshals was one of the network’s quickest renewals of the year. CBS ordered Season 2 on March 12, less than two weeks after the March 1 series premiere, which drew 9.52 million viewers according to Nielsen and more than 20 million across platforms in its first week. Filming on the new season began in Park City, Utah, in June.
How to watch
The premiere aired at 8:30 p.m. ET after 60 Minutes. Starting October 11, the show moves to its regular Sunday slot at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by the Season 4 premiere of Tracker. New episodes land on Paramount+ the day after they air, and all 13 episodes of Season 1 are already there if you need a catch-up before the rescue mission really gets going.
