The Cat in the Hat Opens Wide: Bill Hader Voices Warner Bros. Animation’s Family Comedy

Family night just got a louder option. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation’s theatrical The Cat in the Hat opened across North America on November 6, including IMAX screens, giving parents and kids a PG comedy built for the big room rather than another quiet living-room stream. Bill Hader voices the title troublemaker, and the early Entertainment pitch is simple: bright chaos, sibling teamwork and a last-chance assignment that actually needs a cinema sound system.

Directors Erica Rivinoja and Alessandro Carloni steer a story about siblings Gabby and Sebastian, whose ordinary day collides with the Cat’s urgent mission for the mysterious I.I.I.I. That setup keeps the film in classic family-comedy territory — mischief with stakes, not mean-spirited wreckage — while letting Hader’s comic timing drive the vocal performance. The supporting voice roster is stacked for storefront and trailer cut-through: Matt Berry, Quinta Brunson, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito and America Ferrera round out a cast that parents will recognize even if younger viewers only clock the colorful chaos.

Opening into early November puts the film in a sweet spot between Halloween leftovers and full holiday tentpoles. IMAX play is the tell that Warner Bros. wants this treated as an event animation title, not a soft day-and-date afterthought. For Entertainment audiences, that means the conversation this weekend is theatrical first: which auditorium still has good seats, whether the 3D/IMAX upcharge is worth it for a family of four, and how Hader’s Cat compares with the generation that grew up on earlier screen versions.

Expect the marketing to lean on faces and fun rather than lore dumps. Rivinoja and Carloni come from comedy-forward animation backgrounds, which usually means gag density and emotional clarity over ponderous world-building. If the film plays the way the trailers tease, households get a shared laugh track and a plot simple enough for a second viewing before the winter slate arrives.

For now the news is the open itself: a major studio animated comedy is in theaters and IMAX, Hader is the voice lead, and the supporting ensemble is unusually deep for a November family title. If you have been waiting for a theatrical excuse that works for mixed ages, The Cat in the Hat is the weekend’s clearest invitation.
