Netflix has a new heist movie in the works, and its crew list reads like a dream team. The Take brings together Denzel Washington, Robert Pattinson and Daisy Edgar-Jones under director Fernando Meirelles, the Academy Award nominee behind City of God and The Two Popes. Netflix confirmed the project and its expanded cast on October 27, with the film already shooting in New Jersey.
A guard, a teller and a thief
Netflix describes the film as an unconventional heist story about a bank guard, a teller and a master thief locked in a deadly game of cons and double crosses. Official character details have not been shared yet, which leaves plenty of room for fans to guess who is playing whom and, more importantly, who is fooling whom.
The script comes from Simon Kinberg, whose credits include Mr. & Mrs. Smith, so a mix of sharp tension and playful twists seems likely. Meirelles produces alongside Kinberg and Audrey Chon for Genre Films, with Samson Mucke as executive producer.
The rest of the crew
Beyond the three leads, the cast includes Danai Gurira (Black Panther, The Walking Dead), Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible), Moisés Arias (Monos) and Justin Kirk (Succession, Weeds). Netflix says more names may still be announced.
Why it is worth watching for
Pairing Washington’s commanding screen presence with Pattinson’s taste for unpredictable roles is an intriguing combination, and Edgar-Jones has quickly become one of the most in-demand actors of her generation. Add a director known for kinetic, character-driven filmmaking, and The Take instantly becomes one of the more interesting titles on Netflix’s upcoming slate.
No release date has been announced yet. For now, the safest bet is to keep the popcorn ready and trust nobody, especially the person holding the vault keys.
