Hollywood’s favorite stuntman just clocked back in. Netflix has released the official trailer for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, the long-rumored continuation of Brad Pitt’s Oscar-winning turn from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood. The pitch is deliciously simple: same Cliff, new decade. It is 1977, the town looks different, and David Fincher is behind the camera.
That last detail matters. Tarantino wrote the screenplay and retains the character DNA he fought to reclaim after the original’s rights window closed, but Fincher directing a Tarantino script is the kind of pairing cinephiles screenshot for group chats. Expect the precision framing and icy control Fincher brings to period pieces, filtered through Cliff’s laconic, slightly dangerous charm. Netflix’s own logline calls it “a very different Hollywood,” which is corporate-speak for bell-bottoms, cocaine budgets, and the slow death of the studio system as Boomers knew it.
The cast list reads like a prestige-streamer wishboard. Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Corey Fogelmanis, and Karren Karagulian join Pitt, who also produces with longtime Fincher collaborator Ceán Chaffin. Nobody is spoiling the plot in the trailer — wisely — but the vibe is clear: Cliff is still Cliff, the town has moved on without him, and trouble has a way of finding people who know how to park a car in one take.
Release strategy is pure 2026 hybrid. The film gets an exclusive two-week IMAX run beginning Thanksgiving weekend (screens from November 25), then arrives on Netflix for subscribers on December 23 — a Christmas-adjacent drop designed to dominate holiday couch time. Theatrical windows that short used to scandalize exhibitors; now they are a feature, especially when the IMAX booking is the event and the streamer is the long game.
Context for the uninitiated: Pitt’s Cliff Booth was the secret weapon of Tarantino’s 2019 hit, a washed-cool stunt double whose myth outgrew the movie. The Oscar for supporting actor locked the character into pop-culture permanence. A standalone sequel (or “further mis-adventure,” if we are being brand-accurate) was always going to happen once Tarantino controlled the IP again. That it landed at Netflix, with Fincher attached, suggests the streamer is still willing to spend serious money on adult-skewing originals that can also play as cultural events.
Will it work? Trailers this carefully lit usually do at least half the job. Fincher fans will show up for the craft; Tarantino fans for the dialogue DNA; Pitt fans because Cliff Booth in a leisure suit is basically catnip. And for everyone else, December on Netflix has a new appointment title. Just do not be surprised if the IMAX weekend sells out first — some mis-adventures are better experienced eight stories tall before they shrink to the living-room screen.
