Minimum Wage Opens Its Pizzeria on Netflix: The Viral Teen Workplace Comedy Gets a 28-Episode Upgrade

Posted on October 25, 2026 by xaldris-sl1

Some shows start in a writers’ room. Minimum Wage started on a phone screen. The teen workplace comedy from the production company American High began as a short-form web series in May 2024, reportedly made for under $2,000, and has since piled up more than 30 million views across YouTube, TikTok and Instagram. On Monday, October 26, it moves into the big leagues: the first 14 episodes arrive on Netflix as part of a 28-episode order.

The premise: low stakes, huge pressure

The setup is simple and very relatable to anyone who has ever worn a paper hat. A group of overwhelmed teenagers tries to keep a local pizzeria running while juggling homework, a manic boss and paychecks that barely cover gas money. Netflix’s own logline sums it up neatly: the stakes are low and the pressure is immense. Expect burned crusts, wrong orders, impossible delivery runs and the endless small dramas of a shift where everyone is seventeen and nobody was trained properly.

The show is shot as a single-camera mockumentary, which means talking-head confessionals, side glances at the lens and the awkward silences that made workplace comedies like The Office so watchable. Each episode runs only about twelve and a half minutes, keeping the rapid-fire rhythm that made the original shorts work on social feeds.

The original crew is back

One of the nicest parts of the story is that Netflix did not recast the show with bigger names. The young performers who built the web series all return: Aidan Micho, Grace Reiter, Hyde Healy, Julia DiCesare, Luke Burke, Ryan Micho and Tommy Armstrong. Many of them are also credited as writers, so the voice of the series should feel the same as it did online.

The one notable addition is Randall Park, who joins as Mr. Sylvester. Park has a gift for playing likable people who are slightly out of their depth, which sounds like exactly the right energy for a pizzeria boss trying to manage a staff of teenagers.

From YouTube to streaming

Behind the scenes, the series is run by Jeremy Garelick and Will Phelps. Garelick has a long comedy résumé that includes The Break-Up and The Wedding Ringer, and American High has spent years building a pipeline of low-budget teen comedies. Minimum Wage is a clear sign of where entertainment is heading: platforms are increasingly scouting creators who have already proven they can hold an audience on social media, then giving them a bigger budget without sanding off what made them popular.

Should you clock in?

If you enjoy short, breezy comedies you can watch on a lunch break, this one is built for you. Fourteen episodes of about twelve minutes each add up to less than three hours, which makes it an easy binge for a single evening. The remaining fourteen episodes are expected later, so there is more pizza in the oven if the first batch lands.
