Unlucky number thirteen just got a lot louder. FX dropped the official trailer for American Horror Story: 13, and the anthology’s biggest reunion tease is finally on screen: Jessica Lange is back — not as one fan favorite, but as all four of her defining characters.
The clip opens with carnival swagger and nightmare logic. Elsa Mars invites viewers back to “the greatest show on Earth,” while flashes of Constance Langdon, Sister Jude, and Fiona Goode confirm Lange’s multi-role return. Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson are also stacking personas again (reports put Peters at five characters and Paulson at six), alongside returning faces Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, and Jamie Brewer. Fresh blood includes Paul Anthony Kelly, director John Waters, Avantika Vandanapu, Joey Pollari, and Alex Consani.
Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s series has always thrived on reinvention, but Season 13 leans hard into franchise memory. Trailer beats nod to Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak Show, Hotel, and Apocalypse energy without spoiling the new story’s spine. The packaging is pure September hype: eerie set pieces, chaotic cameos, and that familiar Murphy promise that the past never stays buried.
Rollout details matter for binge planners. The first three episodes premiere together on September 24 at 9 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu, with another three-episode drop the following week before the schedule settles into Thursday releases through late October. Episode 13 is timed for Halloween week — on-brand for a season built around the number everyone fears.
For longtime fans, the trailer is less a plot dump than a reunion flyer. For newcomers, it is a crash course in why AHS still dominates horror television conversation after more than a decade. Light the candles if you want. Just do not expect the house lights to stay on.
